If you’ve been here a while, you know how much I use and love Young Living Essential Oils. We’ve used them to allow our bodies to get healthier and happier, and to kick SO many gross toxins out of our house. I get a lot of questions from friends about how I use them and I realized I’ve never shared any of that information with you guys!
I love essential oils for so many reasons, but the main reason is because these things WORK. If you’re a weirdo and into the science of things like I am, allow me to explain. Essential oils are the liquids distilled from plants. Oils are taken from the roots, seeds or any other part of a plant and they help to heal the body and support wellness. Therapeutic grade oils can: reach every cell in your body within 20 minutes of application, get rid of toxins in the body, support mental and emotional health, help boost your body’s immune system and regenerate DNA. NO BIGGIE.
So why do these guys work so dang well? A lot of reasons, but here are a few…
- E.O’s can bypass digestion. Instead of relying on your gut to digest every bit of whatever you are ingesting (spoiler alert: it doesn’t), therapeutic grade oils skip your digestive system all together. This means that your body really does absorb every bit of the oil that it needs to, allowing the oil to do its job.
- E.O’s are fat soluble. In case you weren’t paying attention in high school biology (a.k.a me), there is a fatty bi-layer under your skin. When you apply an oil topically, this bi-layer soaks all of the oil up. ALL OF IT. It gets it into your bloodstream and taking care of business within 20 minutes.
- They work off of frequencies. Every single living thing (you, me, plants, dogs) have a different vibrational frequency. Literally, every one of your cells is constantly vibrating differently all the time. There has been a ton of research done on plants and oils by smarty pants scientists, so we know which oils match the frequencies and help support different parts of the body. Physics, y’all. And no, I wasn’t paying attention in that class in high school, either 🙂
- They’re adaptogenic. This is just a fancy way of saying oils do for you what your body needs and they do for me what my body needs. They are just helping your body get back to its healthy baseline.
Now the fun part. How do we use them?
I’m always trying new oils and testing different things out, but I absolutely have a few tried-and-true all time favorites.
Lavender: This was the oil that got me on the band wagon. I’ve always loved the smell of lavender (because, duh), but I had no idea that it actually had therapeutic benefits. I put a few drops of this guy in my diffuser at bedtime and I sleep like a baby. I always notice a difference the next morning if I don’t use it. Lavender is also my go-to if I burn myself on the oven when I’m baking cookies, I add a drop to my mascara to make my eyelashes nice and pretty, the uses are endless.
Digize: My tummy isn’t always nice to me. I won’t go into detail because I still want you all to be my friends, but this oil has been a lifesaver. I have a bottle at home and one in my purse so I always have it with me. When my stomach is just being rude, I rub a drop or two of this oil straight on my belly and it does the trick. It supports digestion, alleviates nausea, helps with heartburn, keeps you regular, all the good things.
Deep Relief: This is another one I always have handy. Think IcyHot, but with way less nasty chemicals. A great one for those like me, who are always at your computer and by the end of the day your shoulders feel like you want them off your body. This is a roll-on, which makes it so easy. Also a good one to rub on your temples if you had a little too much fun last night.
Peace and Calming: This is a new one for me, but it’s quickly become one of my favorites. It’s all in the name, who doesn’t need more Peace and Calming? I love to diffuse this one. Or if I’m on the go, I put a drop on my wrists and rub them together.
Thieves: Last, but ABSOLUTELY not least. This is the one I get the most questions about. Thieves is hands down the best for immunity support. Whenever I feel myself coming down with something, I diffuse this, rub a drop on the bottoms of my feet and also add a few drops to my tea. It’s also fabulous for cleaning and killing the nasty stuff in the air and on your counters. I make a hand sanitizer with this oil and always get compliments on how great it smells. If you really want to be wowed, check out this fun experiment with Thieves versus other cleaning products.
That is just the tip of the iceberg, my friends. There are so many other oils that I use every day, and I’m always trying new ones.
I will say, it totally matters what brand of oils you are using, ESPECIALLY if you plan on ingesting them. I did a whole ton of research before choosing Young Living. These are 100% pure essential oils, there is nothing else in the bottles but the oil. They have a Seed to Seal promise, meaning every single step of the process, from planting to bottling, is strictly monitored and controlled. YL is also the only oil company to own all of their own farms, so they really know what is going into these oils. That was a huge deal to me.
If you’re interested in purchasing a Starter Kit from Young Living, head here to enroll as a wholesale member. You get 11 of the most popular oils AND a diffuser! Plus, you get 24% off all future purchases. You know I love me a good discount. And if you have any questions, I’m always here to help!
